Your responsibilities

You make our smart medical technology possible

Within our R&D department, you will work as part of a multidisciplinary team on the development of medical devices—ranging from wearables and surgical tools to drug-device combinations, dosing systems, and heating systems. You will translate functional requirements, system specifications, and risks into manufacturable, reliable, and well-documented mechanical solutions.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Design and detailing of mechanical (sub)systems: from concept to production-ready design.
  • 3D CAD design, tolerances/stack-ups, material selection, and design for manufacturability (DFM/DFA).
  • Preparing and managing mechanical documentation: drawings, bills of materials, specifications, and supporting documentation.
  • Building and overseeing prototypes, testing/iterating, and resolving technical issues.
  • Coordinate with suppliers/partners regarding manufacturing processes, components, and quality.
  • Supporting project teams and clients with technical issues and design decisions.
  • Contribute ideas on process improvements, tooling, and best practices within the R&D department.
  • (Lead role): taking ownership of content, leading design reviews, and coaching colleagues (without this necessarily being a hierarchical role).

Developing solutions that deliver results

You master

  • A completed associate's or bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
  • Experience with mechanical design in product development:

- medior: 3 years of relevant experience

- senior/lead: extensive experience (e.g. 7+ years) with technical ownership in projects

  • Experience with 3D CAD and technical product documentation (drawings/BOMs).
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes (e.g., plastics, sheet metal, machining, assembly) and the ability to translate this knowledge into design decisions.
  • You work in a structured manner, communicate clearly, and take ownership.
  • Experience working in a regulated development environment (ISO 13485 is a plus).
  • Strong communication skills in Dutch (a major plus) and English.

Even if you don’t meet all the requirements yet, but you have the fundamentals and the drive to keep growing: please apply.

In return, you'll get

  • A competitive salary based on your education and work experience
  • A one-year contract for 38 hours per week (32 hours is an option) with the possibility of a permanent position
  • Pension accrual at ASR
  • 35 days of vacation for full-time employees
  • The option to work (partly) from home, subject to agreement
  • Travel Expense Reimbursement
  • Training opportunities and coaching for technical and personal development
  • An innovative work environment where you can make a direct impact on the development of medical technology.

Over Unitron
